Soothill Lane, Batley

Starfish worked alongside Yorkshire Housing in order to deliver this new development, comprising of 38 new homes in Batley that cater for the significant need for affordable, energy efficient new build homes.

The Soothill site in Batley was formerly a disused cricket pitch. With significant demand for sustainable, affordable housing in the area, the community really needed to repurpose the land and to do this, the ground needed to be remediated for housing.

Additionally, the contractor who was due to commence the work had gone into administration before Starfish were selected by Yorkshire Housing.

The budget for the site was £3.25 million, with work commencing in Spring 2015.

• To build affordable and sustainable housing in order to cater for the significant need
• To remediate the ground for housing before works started
• To come up with a defined foundation strategy, utilising strip foundations, raft foundations and piling

These 38 new homes were completed in October 2016, to client budget and programme, including:

• 4 apartments with 2 bedrooms
• 34 semi-detached houses with 2 and 3 bedrooms
• Works completed with zero defects and an influx of housing applications
